Women's Advocate Position

Job Summary: The Women’s Advocate provides trauma-informed, client centered support to individuals seeking assistance with navigating systems related to safety, health, legal matters and overall wellbeing. This role supports individuals in understanding their rights, accessing services, and making informed decisions while minimizing barriers, delays and re-traumatization.

Working from an intersectional and feminist lens, the Women’s Advocate fosters a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment through direct advocacy, education and community engagement. This position also supports program coordination, outreach, and system-level advocacy while working collaboratively with community partners to strengthen service delivery and responsiveness to women’s diverse needs.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Women’s Advocate is responsible for delivering frontline advocacy services, supporting program development and outreach initiatives, maintaining community partnerships, and contributing to reporting and funding requirements.

Main Responsibilities Direct Support & Advocacy

a. Provide one-on-one support to individuals, including crisis intervention, safety planning, system navigation, and referrals to community resources. b. Offer short-term counselling and emotional support to address immediate needs. c. Assist individuals in identifying and prioritizing short- and long-term goals. d. Support individuals in understanding their rights and making informed decisions. e. Provide advocacy and accompaniment related to income security, legal, health, housing, and family matters. f. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant services, resources, and supports.

Community Engagement & Programming

a. Develop and implement workshops and support groups aligned with program goals and community needs. b. Coordinate guest speakers and partner agencies to enhance programming. c. Facilitate educational sessions on topics related to women’s issues, advocacy, and empowerment. d. Support the development of responsive and inclusive programming.

Outreach & Systemic Advocacy

a. Build and maintain partnerships with community service providers and organizations (e.g., health, justice, and social service sectors). b. Participate in community committees, initiatives, and collaborative projects addressing systemic barriers and social justice issues. c. Conduct outreach and public education to increase awareness of available supports and women’s issues. d. Contribute to advocacy efforts aimed at improving systems and services for women.

Administration & Reporting

a. Maintain accurate and confidential client records and service statistics. b. Prepare monthly, semi-annual, and annual reports for internal and external stakeholders. c. Support funding reporting requirements and program documentation. d. Maintain organized filing systems (digital and physical).

General Responsibilities

a. Support drop-in services by responding to inquiries and welcoming visitors. b. Assist with program development, funding proposals, and organizational initiatives. c. Contribute to the upkeep and maintenance of the Women’s Centre space. d. Stay informed on emerging issues and best practices related to advocacy and women’s services.

Education and Knowledge Required: Post-secondary education in social work, counselling, or a related field, or a combination of education and relevant experience in advocacy and women’s services. Knowledge of women’s issues, gender-based violence, and systemic barriers impacting access to services. Experience providing crisis intervention, advocacy, and/or counselling support. Strong understanding of community resources and service systems. Ability to conduct research, gather information, and contribute to reports. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-oppressive practice. Recent Vulnerable Sector Check. Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Skills and Abilities: • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. • Ability to apply trauma-informed, client-centered, and strengths-based approaches. • Strong organizational and time management skills. • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adapt in a fast-paced environment. • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate with community partners. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications. • Non-judgmental, empathetic, and respectful approach to working with diverse populations.

Gender Based Violence Front Line Women's Advocate Worker

Job Summary: Indigenous GBV Frontline worker to support trauma-informed care coordination for individuals affected by gender-based violence (GBV), with a particular focus on rural, racialized, and gender-diverse communities. This role will provide crisis intervention using both traditional and contemporary approaches while helping navigate systems with survivors while minimizing duplication, delays, and re-traumatization. Working from an intersectional lens while the role focuses on fostering a safe and welcoming space through traditional knowledge, community building activities and outreach to the 14 Yukon communities, they will also help build partner capacity through training, collaborative planning, and assist with our land- based healing programs.

Main Responsibilities

Direct Support & Advocacy Offer one-on-one and group support to survivors of GBV, including crisis intervention, safety planning, and referrals to resources. Provide culturally grounded crisis intervention and advocacy, incorporating Indigenous traditions and teachings. Conduct client assessments and help develop plans as needed. Provide short term counseling and emotional support

Community Engagement & Programming Assist with organizing activities such as crafting circles, storytelling sessions, and land-based outings to promote healing and connection. Collaborate with local First Nations to integrate ancestral knowledge into programming. Support community capacity building

Outreach & Education Connect with the 14 Yukon communities to help coordinate outreach events, workshops, and GBV awareness campaigns. Build partnerships territorially with indigenous agencies that enhance service delivery.

Administration & Reporting Maintain records of participant engagement and program outcomes. Assist in preparing the funding reports Program evaluation

Education and Knowledge Required: Education in social work (e.g., BSW, MSW) or professional experience in a social work or related human services setting, with demonstrated experience supporting survivors of GBV. Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and the impacts of colonialism, gained through lived experience and/or professional practice. Experience working with Indigenous communities, particularly with trauma-informed care. Knowledge of trauma-informed care, counseling techniques, and advocacy. Commitment to decolonization and the Calls to Action from the MMIWG and Truth and Reconciliation reports. Vulnerable Sector Check through the RCMP Class 5 Driver’s license Skills and Abilities: • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. • Ability to apply social work principles, trauma-informed approaches, and case management practices in direct support, advocacy, and program development. • Experience in program coordination, workshop and event planning. • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and programs, Google Forms, Canva, etc. • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends as well as travel to rural communities.

Victoria Faulkner Women’s Centre

  1. Introduction
    The Victoria Faulkner Women’s Centre (VFWC) is seeking proposals from qualified graphic designers, branding studios, or creative teams to develop a new brand identity, including a logo and brand kit.

The Centre is currently undertaking a community-informed rebranding process to ensure its name and visual identity reflect who it is today and who it strives to be in the future. This work is grounded in respect, inclusion, and care, and will be informed by community input gathered through surveys, focus groups, and community voting.

  1. Organizational Background
    For decades, the Victoria Faulkner Women’s Centre has been a place of safety, support, advocacy, and connection in the Yukon. The Centre supports women and gender-diverse individuals, working to create safer and more empowered communities.
    As programs, services, and the community served by the Centre have evolved, VFWC is undertaking a rebrand to ensure its identity reflects its values, mandate, and inclusive approach for women and gender diverse community members.

  2. Project Overview
    The successful proponent will work with VFWC to develop a refreshed brand identity that:
  • Reflects the Centre’s values, mission, and community roots
  • Is inclusive of women and gender-diverse people
  • Is trauma-informed and culturally respectful
  • Balances warmth, strength, and trust
  • Is adaptable across print, digital, and physical spaces

The final brand name selection will be done by the VFWC board with input from feedback.

  1. Scope of Work
    The scope of work is expected to include:

a) Logo Design

  • Primary logo in all formats including (AI, EPS, PNG, JPG, SVG)
  • Secondary/alternate logo versions (e.g., horizontal, stacked)
  • Black and white versions
  • Logo usage guidelines

b) Brand Kit Development

  • Colour palette
  • Typography (primary and secondary fonts)
  • Brand patterns or graphic elements (if applicable)
  • Iconography style (if applicable)
  • Photography/imagery style guidance

c) Brand Guidelines Document

  • Clear usage guidelines for logo, colours, and fonts
  • Accessibility considerations
  • Tone and visual style guidance

d) Deliverables

  • Final logo files (AI, EPS, PNG, JPG, SVG)
  • Brand guideline document (PDF)
  • Any supporting brand assets developed through the process
  1. Community-Centred Approach
    Proponents should demonstrate an understanding of community-centred, trauma-informed, and inclusive design practices. Experience working with non-profits, Indigenous organizations, women’s organizations, or community-serving organizations is considered an asset.

The successful proponent will be expected to incorporate feedback provided by VFWC, which may include input gathered from community engagement processes.
